On a political note…
The House is considering a bill to ban smoking at all VA facilities (H.R. 1662). On the surface it may sound like a good idea. But for those veterans who suffer from PTSD, smoking is a way to cope with what they have gone through. If smoking were to be banned, it might make some of them less likely to seek help. The VA has a good smoking cessation program, but some just don’t want to and can’t stop now. There are over 1800 veterans who smoke and live in a home of the VA because they are homeless, or disabled.
The Veterans Health Care Act of 1992 requires the VA to establish and maintain “a suitable indoor area in which patients or residents my smoke.”
Having been in war I know how messed up one can get. Consider what you might want to do about this.
